Melissa Savarino of Tutu & Lilli immediately fell in love with Round Top the first time she visited. As a longtime children’s clothing manufacturer, she was looking for the next step in her career. That’s when she and her sister started to make jewelry, and Melissa had the idea to create clothing to go with the unique pieces. What started out as a fun side project for her and her sister evolved into showcasing their work at the Arbors during the Round Top Antiques Show. And, after selling her house in Houston, Melissa moved to Round Top and found the location of their new shop in Rummel Square the same day.
Tutu & Lilli’s comfortable, everyday clothing features easy silhouettes and fabrications that are all cut and sewn in Houston. All are designed to be slightly oversized and easily taken from day to night. At their shop in Rummel Square, the two sisters showcase Tutu & Lilli as well as the jewelry they create.
Melissa says that while every business in Round Top is unique and artisan-based, she feels proud that their store is the only one that features locally-designed women’s apparel that’s made close by. “Round Top as a whole is creative and brings out a creative spirit in people,” she says. “I don’t think there’s another small town with a population of 90 anywhere in the world like Round Top. It’s small and sophisticated but has an international feel as well.”
As a Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce member, Melissa says Tutu & Lilli is proud that they can join the collective of businesses working hard to promote Round Top as the town that’s big time small.
